When you receive your business’ water bill, you will see a price to pay but you most likely won’t be able to see the breakdown of what that figure entails. How much are you paying for water, wastewater and the management of your account?
The UK Government deregulated England’s commercial water market in April 2017. This meant that, for the first time, businesses could choose their suppliers for both water and wastewater services, no matter where in England or Scotland their business was based. Unfortunately, water in Wales and Northern Ireland has not yet been de-regulated.
This deregulation meant that you could decide which retail water provider you wanted to pay for the billing and administration of your supplies.
Scotland was the first country in the world to deregulate its water market in 2008. It was very successful at raising standards and lowering prices, with Scottish businesses enjoying savings on their water bills.
The decision to deregulate the commercial water market was made primarily to improve the quality of the service. Previously, water companies had the monopoly in whichever area they served. The government hoped that, by giving commercial customers a choice through deregulation, water companies would make an effort to improve both rates and standards.
SavingSmart can offer discounts on your water bills. While the savings are not as significant as those we often identify on energy bills, the higher your water usage, the greater the saving – money you could be putting to good use in another area of your business.
Our water contract is for three years, meaning that your retail costs are fixed, giving you price certainty and helping you to budget. On average our customers save over £150 a year.
Wholesale water costs are revised every April. All suppliers buy water at the same wholesale rates. If you are concerned about your water supply, we can also offer you a water audit.
If your business operates across sites nationwide, you can use one water supplier for all your sites. This means that you only receive one water bill for the whole of your commercial water supply, increasing the efficiency of your payments. You’ll also avoid paying different prices in different parts of England, making budgeting easier.
